Ultimate Vanity Design

The right bathroom vanity can make or break your home makeover organisation.

We can help you build a vanity that is the perfect balance between sufficient storage space and something aesthetically pleasing, elevating your bathroom to a luxurious part of your home.

The best type of vanity is the one that has ample storage which is easy to access, includes plenty of counter space and is easy to clean.

We love to include drawers in a vanity to increases the usable storage space. A floating vanity gives you one less thing to go around when cleaning the floor and sleek finishes like stone and anti-fingerprint laminate panels keep the vanity looking spotless.

Both single and double vanities have their advantages. Single vanities allow for more storage space and countertop space as well as one less basin to clean. Whereas double vanities allow 2 people to use the vanity simultaneously and additional storage can be added with a shave cabinet if needed.

Generally for master ensuites we recommend a double vanity if space allows but for the main bathroom usually a single vanity is most practical.

The finished height of the basin is the most important facet of the vanity height. The basin should finish around the same height as the kitchen bench-top at 900mm – 920mm high for comfort when washing hands, cleaning teeth etc.

Shades of white and grey will never date but they can create a more clinical feel in a space that is already filled with hard finishes like tile and glass.

For a warmer alternative that is still timeless selecting a natural timber veneer or a timber look laminate can be a great option.

Designing A Laundry Room

Whether your laundry is spacious or compact, whether you’re building new or renovating, you want your laundry to be practical and functional. If you lack the space for a dedicated laundry room, talk to us about how our cabinet makers could integrate your laundry with your bathroom, kitchen, or hallway cabinetry.

Your laundry layout should ensure sufficient space to move around safely and comfortably. Ample storage could include benches, cupboards, and overheads.

Laundry area in Chiton with storage including hanging space above washing machine and counter top

Start by making a list of all the things you want to include in your new laundry, e.g trough, washer and dryer, laundry basket, broom cabinet, hanging rail etc.

Now go back and number these items in order of importance.

Then you can work with your designer to create a layout that includes as many of your list items in order of importance so nothing truly important is left out.

Utilise vertical space by adding overhead cabinets for storage or by stacking appliances or hanging the dryer on the wall. Another option is to consider a combination washer/dryer appliance to eliminate the space needed for 2 separate appliances.

If possible, maintaining the positions of plumbing and electrical services will significantly reduce the cost of trades involved. Also using economical finishes like laminate benchtops, melamine doors and standard hardware will keep the laundry budget friendly and allow for the room focus to be on functionality.

Custom TV Cabinets

Custom TV cabinets showcase your home’s entertainment system in a way that enhances its decor. Your entertainment unit will likely be the centre of the room. We can help you ensure that it matches the colour scheme and style of your walls, furniture, and other features.

Our custom joinery lets you keep your entertainment centre organised while enjoying a better overall viewing experience in a space that lends itself to showing off to your guests and keeping them entertained.

Generally entertainment units range from $1,500 to $4,000 and up depending on the size, complexity of design and materials used.

The with of a TV cabinet should be at least the same width as the TV you plan to use but having some additional space either side creates a nice balance. Some recommended minimum widths based on the TV size are below:

  • 50” TV – 1400mm Wide Unit
  • 55” TV – 1500mm Wide Unit
  • 60” TV – 1650mm Wide Unit
  • 65” TV – 1800mm Wide Unit

The centre of the TV should be centred to your eye level when seated, therefore the TV Unit should be around 400-450mm in height. The depth of the TV cabinet should accommodate it adequately with room for ventilation any devices you plan to store in the unit including DVD players, sound systems etc.

Another important consideration for the cabinet size is how will it relate to the room, a custom cabinet can be made to complement the overall design and style of the room.

The best material depends on your preferences, budget and overall aesthetic of the home but some of the most popular materials include:

  • Timber – Solid or veneer products are durable and add a nice warmth to the unit
  • Laminate – Affordable and available in a variety of colours and finishes
  • 2Pac Paint – Variety of colours and can be used on fluted, curved and shaker doors for textural interest

Luxury Walk-In Robes

Large, elegant, walk-in robes are the things dreams are made of. Having a well-organized dedicated room for shelving for shoe storage, hanging clothing, jewellery, and accessories can make getting ready for an ordinary occasion feel luxurious.

When you visit our showroom just outside of Adelaide, look at our popular walk-in robe designs and talk to our team about ways our cabinet makers can make your custom walk-in robe design a reality.

Customised walk in wardrobes with lighting

Including drawers, low shelving for shoes and areas with double hanging rails makes the best use of all vertical space in a walk-in robe area creating more storage space.

Walk-in robes can be very inexpensive, costing as little as $1,000.

Building the robe storage using the existing walls of the room as the frame and adding whiteboard shelving and hanging areas reduces the materials and labour needed. There are of course more luxury options that can be included such as colour board, full length doors and mirrors, drawers and specialty inserts that can be added if the budget allows.

For each person using the robe a width between 1800mm – 3000mm for a combination of hanging, shelving and drawers is generally suitable.

If the robe has sliding or hinged cabinetry doors the minimum depth needs to be 600mm to allow for ease of door closure. If the robe is an open walk-in style the shelving will generally be 500mm in depth.
