Chiton New Industrial Chic Kitchen

This new kitchen in Chiton was all about a dark moody industrial aesthetic that would enhance the whole style and form of the home.

At the initial consultation, the clients were instantly drawn to Dekton ‘Trilium’ for its volcanic metallic colour pallet and texture. To compliment these tones, the concrete floor and the multitude of recycled brick walls in the space we decided to use natural timber veneer on the cabinet doors/panels to really warm up the space.

Some challenges presented themselves in connection to the building.

Design Challenges

  • The wall that the hotplate was located on was raw recycled brick, we wanted to add a splash back that wouldn’t ruin the look of the beautiful brickwork but that would protect them from splashes.
  • The venting of the rangehood. Directly above the hotplate was a structural steel lintel so we could not go up through and out for ventilation.

Design Solutions

  • After considering a solid painted black splash back we decided to use a clear ‘grey’ glass so that the bricks were still visible. This then meant that we could not use our usual glass fixing methods, so we devised a method of fixing by customizing some glass stand offs.
  • Together with the builder we worked on a feature exposed black pipe to take the vent out the side of the building. This ended up adding a cohesive feature to the industrial design.

The layout, space and colours are unified throughout the home and make this kitchen a delight to be in.
